Who We Are

In every community, there are boys and girls left alone after school to find their own recreation and companionship. Without adult supervisor some of these young people may become involved with the wrong groups of kids and find themselves getting into serious trouble.

A Boys & Girls Club offers kids a safe place to go after school where they can have fun and make friends. There are caring adults that offer guidance, mentoring and friendship. Young people of all backgrounds join together in meaningful opportunities for education, recreation and companionship.

Our goal is to engage Club members in activities that are fun and enjoyable, while supporting their development. We hope that each child who walks through our Club doors develops a positive self-identity; educational, employment, social, emotional and cultural competencies; community and civic involvement; health and well being and a strong moral compass.

Our Mission

To inspire and enable all young people, especially those that need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, caring adults.

National History

Boys & Girls Clubs of America had its beginnings in 1860 with several women in Hartford, Conn. Believing that boys who roamed the streets should have a positive alternative, they organized the first Club. A cause was born.

In 1906, several Boys Clubs decided to affiliate. The Federated Boys Clubs in Boston was formed with 53 member organizations.

In 1931, the Boys Club Federation of America became Boys Clubs of America.

In 1956, Boys Clubs of America celebrated its 50th anniversary and received a U.S. Congressional Charter.

To recognize the fact that girls are a part of our cause, the national organization's name was changed to Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 1990. Accordingly, Congress amended and renewed our charter.

Local History

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County were formed in 2005 as the result of a merger between the Boys & Girls Club of Glassboro and the Boys & Girls Club of Paulsboro. These two Clubs, on opposite sides of Gloucester County, are the foundation of what will be a network of Clubs throughout the county in the years ahead. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County offer services to all youth in any of the many towns in the Gloucester County community. All young people ages 6-18 are welcome.
