Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County to open Woodbury Club

July 11, 2013: Today the Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County signed a license agreement with Central Baptist Church to open a Club in Woodbury. Located at 37 S Jackson Street in downtown Woodbury, Central Baptist Church is within walking distance from the Woodbury Jr./Sr. High School. “It is an ideal location to provide a safe and positive environment for children of Woodbury” says Boys & Girls Clubs Board of Directors President Gary Davis. “The church has made ample space available to us to provide for our many services, including a large meeting room with a stage, a kitchen, a computer lab room, recreation rooms, study and homework rooms.” Central Baptist Church Senior Pastor Carla Romarate-Knipel said “As part of our outreach to the community, we are very pleased to be able to provide a venue for such an outstanding organization. The Boys & Girls
Clubs has an outstanding reputation both nationally and here in Gloucester County. We are excited for them to open a Club at our facility in order for young people in our city to have a place to call their own, where they can develop skills and character to become future leaders of our community.” It costs just $10.00 per year for membership in the Boys & Girls Clubs, which includes nutritious meals, help with their educational needs, computer lab time, recreational time, and a chance to develop friendships
with other members and learn from experienced counselors. In 2002, Boys & Girls Clubs were opened in Glassboro & Paulsboro. Five years later they merged to form the Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County. The Woodbury Unit will be their third location, with the possibility of further expansion to other municipalities in the future. The combined clubs serve over 1,000 youths annually. Throughout the State, Boys & Girls Clubs are located in 65 communities and serve over 85,000 children 6-18 years old. The State and County organizations are part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The majority of funding for the organization is through individual donations, with some government support as well as grant funding from corporations and Foundations. Woodbury Mayor Bill Volk said “we are thrilled to be the third location in Gloucester County for such a well-respected organization as the Boys & Girls Clubs. We welcome them with open arms and look forward to them providing a place for our young folks to spend their after school time in a friendly and character building environment”. Opening day is scheduled for September 23. There will be an opportunity for Woodbury residents to visit the Club at a Community Open House scheduled for Thursday September 5th from 5-7pm at the new location in Central Baptist Church.
